Watch The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Set A New EV Record At The Nurburgring
The newest Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, available with the optional Weissach package, has set a new record as the fastest series production electric sedan to tackle the Nurburgring circuit in Germany. It also holds the record for the fastest lap at Laguna Seca. The facelifted Taycan completed the lap at the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds, with an onboard video now available for viewing.
The Taycan Turbo GT surpassed the previous record held by the Tesla Model S Plaid, completing the track in just over 7 minutes. The updated Taycan’s lap time was more than 17 seconds faster than the Model S Plaid, which is a significant difference in the world of motorsport.
Equipped with a dual-motor setup producing 1,019 horsepower and 988 pound-feet of torque, the Turbo GT version of the Taycan can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.1 seconds with the Weissach package. The Weissach pack also adds features like an adaptive rear spoiler and removes the rear seats to reduce weight.
Despite its impressive performance, the Taycan uses only two electric motors compared to the Model S Plaid’s three motors. This highlights the importance of not just power, but also efficiency in transferring that power to the road.
